Sally Chen
Sally Chen is an economist with a career in international financial institutions. She is currently the Regional Adviser for Asia for the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), based in Hong Kong. In this capacity, Sally helps craft the Bank’s research priorities, including initiatives on fintech and CBDC in Asia as well as outreach in the region.
Before joining BIS, Sally was with the IMF in various capacities. She was in the Fund’s strategy department where she helped draft the Fund’s policy papers, including its stance on exchange rate policy and debt management. More recently, Sally was the Resident Representative heading the IMF’s Hong Kong Office, where she coordinated the Fund's research efforts on financial market developments and outreach in the Greater China region, including engagements with academia, think tanks, media and market participants. Earlier in her career, Sally worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and BNP Paribas.
Sally graduated from Wellesley College and Columbia University where she studied economics. Her research focuses on the intersection of macro and financial stability, including fintech developments and capital flows.
