Professor Gang Fan serves as a professor of Economics at the Peking University (PHBS) and at the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He is also Chairman of the China Development Institute, Director of the National Economic Research Institute, and the Secretary-General of the China Reform Foundation.
Professor Fan is an advisor to various departments of the Chinese central government and provincial governments. He also serves as an academic member of China’s Monetary Policy Committee during 2006-2010 and 2015- 2018. Earlier in his career, he spent two years as a visiting fellow at Harvard Universityand the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Researchfrom 1985 to 1987.
Professor Fan was listed as one of the “World’s Top 100 Public Intellectuals” by both Foreign Policy and Prospect magazines in 2005 and 2008, and listed as one of the “100 Global Thinkers” by Foreign Policy in 2010.
Professor Fan received his PhD in Economics from CASS in 1988. His publications include over 100 academic papers published in Chinese and English academic journals; and 12 books on Macroeconomics and Economics of Transition.
